What is the Wyoming Medical Society?

The Wyoming Medical Society was founded in 1903 to provide representation, advocacy and service to Wyoming physicians. We strive to be an efficient, member-driven, responsive organization, capable of anticipating and responding swiftly to the changing healthcare environment. WMS serves our membership, and their patients, and works to improve the health of Wyoming’s citizens.

STRATEGIC GOALS

Goal #1 – Be the Voice of Medicine:

Utilize the powerful, effective & unified voice of WMS to improve the physician practice environment and quality of healthcare for Wyoming patients.

Goal #2 – Provide a Premier Member Experience:

Grow membership and increase provider participation and involvement to ensure the future health of the organization.

Goal #3 – Improve the Practice Environment and Increase Public Awareness:

Enhance the public image of WMS members by strengthening physicians’ trusted leadership role in communities.

WMS brings valuable services to doctors and patients across Wyoming including: legislative advocacy, public health promotion, and a strong voice of representation across a wide mix of state and federal programs.

EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR
Sheila Bush is the executive director for the Wyoming Medical Society and is responsible for the overall management of WMS and its staff. She provides staff support to the Board of Trustees, serves as the chief lobbyist and advocate for Wyoming’s physician voice, and provides administrative services for the organization. She is a graduate of the University of Wyoming. With nearly 2 decades in advocacy, her experience helps shape healthcare policy in Wyoming, Sheila Bush has demonstrated her commitment and dedication to physician interests, and is available for any member regardless of need.
Maria Cowley – Cheyenne, WY – Wyoming Medical Society

MEMBERSHIP AND FINANCE DIRECTOR
Maria Cowley has served the Board of Trustees and members for over a decade. She provides membership and financial support for the Wyoming Medical Society and several specialty societies. She earned her undergraduate degree at the University of Wyoming. Maria has previous accounting and management experience working for KPMG Accounting firm, Bristol-Myers Squibb, Rose Medical Center and Trilegiant Corporation. If you have a billing question, or inquiry regarding membership it’s her friendly voice you will reach.

COMMUNICATIONS DIRECTOR
 Whitney Harmon is responsible for developing marketing and communication strategies, PR campaigns, and the WMS web presence. She also takes part in planning the Wyoming Medical Society Annual Meeting and the Wyoming Leaders in Medicine program. She handles membership communication and the Friends of WMS/Preferred Vendor contracts. Whitney completed her undergraduate degree at the University of Wyoming and her graduate degree at the University of Alabama. Prior to joining the WMS team, she worked for the Wyoming Secretary of State. If you have questions about WMS programs or offerings, please reach out to Whitney.
