For infection prevention and control to be successful, high-quality training, education, and practice need to be aligned from the classroom to clinical sites.
The American Hospital Association, in partnership with CDC’s Project Firstline and the League for Innovation in the Community College, developed Essentials for Teaching Infection Control, a free five-video series and instructor’s manual to help teach or enhance existing infection control curricula.
The newly added video, Introduction to Infection Control, deepens the conversation in the series by identifying the four pathways for spread and eight common reservoirs for germs, and discusses strategies for minimizing the spread of germs in healthcare settings.
Wrapping up the video series is Source Control in Health Care. This module supports team members in identifying how to use source control in healthcare settings, knowing the difference between source control and personal protective equipment (PPE), and demonstrating their role in reducing the risk of spreading disease.
